Registry charges expected to double in UP from next month

The registry charges in UP seem set to double from next month after the revenue department sent a proposal to UP Cabinet to hike the same. The stamp and registry department is citing increased cost and expected profit as the reason for the said proposal. UP Cabinet is expected to take a decision on the same by end of month.

If approved, it will be an additional burden on homebuyers hoping to get registry of their flats and homes done in near future. The last such hike in registry charges was done way back during BSP regime in 2009.

The registry charges that stand at around 11k after tax today, would come to around 22k after the approval and implementation of the said proposal.
