CBSE schools mandated to declare fees and infrastructure details online

In October 2016, CBSE had sent a circular to all CBSE affiliated schools to ensure that the fee structure along with other details like safety measures, teacher’s qualification, infrastructure details and school activity calendar. However, not many schools abide by the circular even till date. When Go4Reviews did a research of schools in Noida and Greater Noida in 2016-2017, it found that almost 40% of schools have not uploaded fees structure online.

Taking a note of such cases of violations of its circular, CBSE is now going to add these conditions to its affiliation bye-laws that will let CBSE take extreme steps against schools to the extent of de-affiliation if these standards are not followed. CBSE is going to mandate uploading of fees structure with all the heads on school website. It will also make it mandatory for schools to hold discussions with parents association before finalizing on fees hike at end of a session (and before beginning of a new one). Schools have to ensure they can convince the association that the hike shall commensurate with facilities and other developments taking place inside school.

As part of the bye-laws, it would be mandatory for schools to upload infrastructure details including safety measures, sport training, canteen, mess etc. Moreover, schools will be mandated to not assign non-academic work to academic faculty/teachers. This will go a long way in ensuring faculty keeps the focus on academics and thereby would pave way to individual attention towards students.

The proposed fine for violation is capped at 1 lakhs but it could also lead to de-affiliation for multiple violations. The bye-laws are being framed in discussions with schools and parents body and are expected to be arrived at by end of this month.
