Best schools in Gurgaon 2018

Before you read the complete list of Best schools in Gurgaon 2018, it is important that parents realize that there is no binary in school education system. A school can not be simply classified as good or bad just because a survey comes up with particular perception of the school. A lot depends upon the kid’s upbringing prior to schooling and a lot depends upon the kid himself/herself. At the same time, before searching for a school, clarity of thoughts is essential. Answers to these questions are a must have: Do you feel the child is smart and confident enough and only needs a right academic direction? Do you feel all that the child needs is to grow in confidence? Do you feel child needs to find a career in sports or other extra co-curricular opportunities? Do you feel you can put the extra hard work by taking your kid to coaching/training in sports/music etc. during non-school hours? or Do you feel the child needs to have a strong like minded company? If you have answers to all these questions, this Survey could help you since we divide a particular School’s rating based on individual parameters and then we come up with overall ratings based on a well researched weightage given to these parameters.

This year, along with SchoolBrainer, we researched around 50 schools in Gurgaon. Ratings for few of these schools are primarily based on lineage, prospective parent’s feedback, planned/current infrastructure and submitted survey form, if applicable.

This year, we have re-adjusted our calculation of overall ratings for the school. We have taken 20% of Academics, 20% of Safety/Security and 20% of Individual attention to child as key parameters for overall ratings. These parameters are given highest weightage based on an online Survey we had run 3 months back. Other than these parameters, 15% of Co-curricular, 10% of Extra-curricular and 5% each of ‘Parents-Teacher Interaction’, ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Teacher Welfare’ have been considered. More details of each parameter will follow after the list of Best schools in Gurgaon 2018 which is given below:

  1. Survey forms submitted by 5 Parents and 5 non-Parents for each school/Desk Survey
  2. Survey form submitted by schools (only around 20 of 60 schools didn’t respond to requests and for such cases, the weight-age of consideration # 3 was extended)
  3. Teacher Survey form submitted by teachers where received
  4. Ratings/Reviews for schools given at individual school links given at https://go4reviews.in/2017/01/best-schools-of-gurgaon-based-on-cbse-and-icse-board-results-2016/  ,  https://go4reviews.in/2018/07/best-icse-schools-gurgaon/ and https://go4reviews.in/category/blog/education/gurgaon-schools/
  5. SchoolBrainer’s Social Sentiment Analytics
  6. Online survey conducted during period Oct-Nov’17

‘Survey Form’ and ‘Parents Feedback/Desk Survey’ constituted 30% each while ‘Online Survey/reviews’ and ‘Social Analytics’ constituted 20% each.

The schools were surveyed on following parameters:

  1. Academics – Defined by board results (if applicable), principal/headmistress/academic coordinator lineage, average experience level of teachers, criteria for employment.
  2. Individual attention to child – Defined by Student Teacher Ratio, Parent’s Feedback.
  3. Safety/Security – Defined by Safety measures at Gates, CCTVs, Number of Floors, flooring/pool/play area safety, Bus safety standards, Parent’s Feedback.
  4. Infrastructure – Defined by indoor/outdoor facilities/amenities and quality of infra.
  5. Parents involvement – Defined by PTMs, Number of Events where parents are invited, Parent’s Feedback.

  7. Extra curricular -Defined by Intra and Inter school Events conducted, Association with Play academies, Play area infra, Parents Feedback.
  8. Teacher Welfare -Number of holidays for teachers, average working hours, Teacher Welfare Survey feedback.

Note: The collective points were rounded off to nearest multiple of 5. Where the Total points for two or more schools were same, Schools that rank high on Academics was ranked higher overall.

Write to us if you have questions about these schools or would like us to review any other school (we need around 2 weeks for completing reviews of a school).

I was shell shocked to learn that the school allows third parties to commercialise the sports infrastructure to unknown outsiders all year round before and after school hours. That means if any child pursues a sport and needs to train before or after school hours, they will be exposed to strangers. Strangely, this is the only school in Gurgaon that does it. Also the security risk as nobody checks the bags of these casual sports players which translates into a huge risk to send my son there for an education. Are schools actually permitted to do this? Checked with Shiv Nadar and Kunskapsskolan and they do not permit outsiders to use the school infrastructure. I am not considering this place any more for my son.

If you are talking about pre-primary or primary, TSMS is good based on my experience so far this year. Amity is all academics and some select get exposure to extra curricular activities. TSMS is new and hence good focus on child is offered. If its senior class, go for Amity Intl since TSMS is still building up its senior staff.

Depends on what you are looking at. If focus is academics, choose DPS 45. If you feel kid has matured enough to compete among classmates, choose DPS 45 else SunCity 37d.

Academics-Curriculum and teacher training – The senior staff (>class 3 onwards) of Shriram millennium school is quite experienced. Junior staff is also trained well before they start teaching. Academics in its previous venture in Noida and Faridabad has been good.
Co-curricular- Enough exposure provided to children.
Sports- Infrastructure is limited. Although students are trained in sports, the likelihood of a full size sport facility is not there.

TSMS is going to be a good choice. The location is bit isolated though. Scottish high is established. If you want good sports facility, go for Scottish high. For short term also, Scottish high is good. If you are looking at long term gains and ok with ICSE as a board, TSMS can be considered equally.

ts a comparison between an established group and a group undergoing consolidation. TSMS has done a wonderful job in Noida and Faridabad and Gurgaon is expected to be no different since former TSRS Delhi acamedician and TSMS Faridabad’s principal is leading it. It is expected to be one among the most sought after schools in 2-3 years from now. HDFC has a very able leadership in form of its principal who was previously with DAV. Expected to be more academics centric.

Excellent info. I have to get my maid’s child admitted in a private school. What are the requirements for EWS and which school accepts?

I would try to explain how it works to you. First of all, any private school is supposed to have around 10% EWS seats which can be passed onto general category in lieu of insufficient application. The kid in question has to pass EWS qualification exam. The family has to have BPL card and the annual income filled in form shall be less than BPL limit. An enquiry can be done by school where there is doubt but the enquiry has to be done in time bound manner. Post that, any private school cannot refuse admissions to the kid on merit of financial condition, provided it has not breached 10% seats already. Schools like Vidya school in Gurgaon have 100% seats reserved for EWS.

See MRIS is a new school with a good potential. They spend well on getting a good faculty. On the other hand, KR Mangalam has already given some decent results in Gurgaon. But KRMS is a bit less into co-curricular activities. Other aspects, there is very little to separate the two.

Maitrikiran has a good infra in comparison to Vega, the outdoor exposure is also more. However, faculty and individual attention wise, Vega stands out. I would prefer Vega between the 2 as it stands today.

Shikshantar has been among top 3 highest scoring school in Gurgaon. There is undoubtedly a reason for that which is it’s deep rooted understanding of providing info to the child.

Few parents do feel that there has been an overhaul at junior faculty level. However, senior faculty level is still mostly the same and so are the results.

Thanks for throwing light on the topic. So, its still worth the top choice, right? My key factors are individual attention and academics.

I am looking for admission for my child but my problem is that good schools start admission late so we need to try our luck and as a result, our money would get stuck in one of backup schools. could you advise what should be backup schools for us.

Suncity, Kuns, HDFC are few which could be on your backup list. however, lot depends on your own priorities and parameters you have flagged for yourselves.

Hi Siddhartha, Kuns is a good option for building confidence in the child and parents too can reach the management. However, the KED methodology in itself leaves little scope for Academics and when compared to the existing needs of CBSE board, it doesn’t quite fit in. So, the only issue with Kuns is Academics, else its mostly good.
HDFC on the other hand is a newer set up under able leadership of previously DAV principal. The focus would be more on academics. facilities and activities carried out are decent but individual attention would be comparatively less compared to Kuns.

Your list has TSMs in top 10 even though it’s a new school. Any reason for that?

Yes, it would be it’s first session next year. Having witnessed the growth of TSMS in Noida and Faridabad, it’s a dark horse in Gurgaon. A good alternative for parents looking for admissions in big name schools.

Well, the difference between the schools is both on teaching methodologies and acad outcome and fees. Fees of kuns is almost 1.5 times. The acads of Suncity is a tad superior. However, the parents satisfaction is high in Kuns due to its teaching methodology, comfort and approachability.

Yes, that’s a decent list but you may relook at Vega since that may not entirely fit in all parameters especially acads and extra curricular. You may also include TSMs and Suncity apart from usual top shortlisted schools.

It has good reviews from parents and a mixed feedback from parents sharing perception based feedback. The acads is good but one common negative feedback is lack of individual education especially in primary years.
