Minimum Age limit for class X board exams

One of the concerns that parents have in relation to admitting their child to school at an early age (less than 3 years for nursery and less than 5 years for class I ) is whether the child would be allowed to appear for board exams when he/she reaches class X citing minimum Age criteria. The intention of this article is to clear confusion regarding the minimum age limit for class X board exams for CBSE and ICSE boards, the two most popular examination boards in India.

It is to be noted that neither CBSE nor ICSE have a minimum age limit for class X board exams. The age limit is defined by State Education department instead. CBSE states that ‘Parents may follow the minimum age prescribed by the concerned State/U.T. Government where the school is situated. ‘ Some of the age limits stated by States are mentioned below:

In Haryana, Minimum Age limit for class X Board exams is 14 years. In Uttar Pradesh, Minimum Age limit for class X Board exams is 14 years while maximum age limit is 14 years.

Please let us know if you need the minimum age limit for class X board exams for any other state and we would add it here.

Thanks for this useful info. My kid is 2 years 11 months old and I am planning to have her admitted to nursery. Good to know that she would be eligible for board exams if she joins now.
