Akshay kumar @ Dare 2 Dance review

With an abundance of dance shows on offer, what would a TV channel running another dance show do to grab viewer’s attention?

Possibly, add some more elements to it and have a judge everyone would like to look up to?

This is exactly what ‘Life Ok’ channel seems to be trying.

They have come up with a novel thought (as claimed by them) of dance and dare together.

And who better than the ‘Khiladi’ i.e. Akshay Kumar could have done justice to such a daring concept.

Before we go into reviewing a couple of beamed shows, let’s look at the concept:

The show comprises of 10 contestants all of whom are dancers (with two of them being actor turned dancers).

The contestants are supposed to dance under some potentially precarious circumstances like dancing on a 50 meter elevated platform against winds, inside the swimming pool or on an open truck and so on.

The contestants get appraised on both the dare and dancing aspects by the two judges who are themselves international action director and bollywood dance director respectively.

Now, coming back to my take on the show:

First of all, the picturesque Cape Town makes the show a visual treat. The show owners have consciously tried to keep the quaint landscapes in background.

A lot of effort seems to have been put in behind setting the stage for each and every show.

The contestants are excellent dancers barring a few adding to the much needed spice.

Akshay makes a conscious effort throughout to make the contestants feel at unease 🙂 and punches in his usual wits during his mentoring/anchoring stint which is amusing to watch.

The first couple of episodes involved contestants dancing on a 50 meter slippery elevated platform against extremely windy conditions. The last episode involved contestants dancing inside a swimming pool. The upcoming episode is expected to be the most risky of all. They would be asked to dance on an open moving truck.

I do admire the program’s sheer novel concept and hope it only picks up steam from here.

For now, I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming episode.
